HEART IN MY MOUTH, ANIMAL FEAR, FEVER TRANCE | 2021
Aoife Pink’s digital illustrations draw inspiration from 1920s surrealist paintings. Through this graphic style, the artist reinforces the parallels of a young person’s experience today with the equally radically changing world of the roaring 20s. The tryptic reflects Pink’s experience of femininity: heart in my mouth, a self-portrait, conveys the heartache and shock experienced in the wake of a breakup, Animal Fear interrogates the reality of living with fear and anxiety (especially through changing political and environmental shifts) and fever trance explores female sexuality and promiscuity. Combining pop culture references and digital drawing techniques with a surrealist style, Pink positions these experiences as universal and unrestrained by time.
