Sunjie Ni’s work represents the image of a “dream bubble” resembling dewdrops and lightbulbs, and calling to mind the elements of water and electricity. The piece derives its philosophy from Buddhist scriptures — in particular, the belief that everything in the world is as empty as dreams, illusions, bubbles, and shadows. The combination of glass and water brings viewers into an ethereal scene, highlighting the changes of light and shadow. Concurrently, the fragility of glass expresses the easily shattered nature of one’s illusions.
